Good physical fitness means maintaining a healthy body that works the way it should, as well as maintaining a healthy state of mind. Not only will good fitness help you to be in good physical shape, but you’ll find it also improves your mental condition. If you are struggling to get fit again, the following article has suggestions to better your fitness level.

Don’t set yourself up for lost time trying to decide what to wear to work out. Purchase everything in neutral tones that blend. Keep all of your clean workout clothes in one place and those needing washing in a single, designated hamper. When you do this, your clothing will all coordinate, and it will be easier to care for your workout clothes. If you keep all your dirty gym clothes together it will save you time, because you can wash them all together.

Make sure your fitness program has plenty of variety. This is very important. If you are doing only the same exercises all the time, you will become mentally tired of them. When you body gets used to one type of exercise, it becomes easier and you have to do more of them for results. In order to keep your exercise regimen fresh and exciting, try new exercises on a regular basis.

It is common for people to push things too far once they make the decision to start a workout regimen. You can strain muscles and become extremely sore and tired if you don’t ease into exercise. In order to prevent injuries, take things easy at first, because you are physically unaccustomed to working so hard.

Take up jogging with a friend. Running with a friend can be a motivator, especially if they’re in better shape than you. Someone who is already used to running can be a great coach and mentor for you. Exercising with someone who can outperform you will encourage you to go faster and try harder. That sense of friendly rivalry that develops will spur you both on to greater achievement then exercising alone.

Doing free-weight squats with barbells is an excellent exercise to give you a really nice looking, muscular shape. Squats reign supreme in their overall effectiveness. Not only do they tone and build your quadriceps, abdominal muscles, hamstrings, calves, and lower back muscles, but they also contribute to your general body mass by temporarily boosting the production of a growth hormone.

You need to make working out one of your top priorities. Look at working out like taking a bath. You need to do it every day! Add exercising to your daily “to-do” list to ensure it gets done. If exercise becomes a daily habit, you will feel much better about yourself.

A lot of people regularly visit the gym and lift weights to improve their personal fitness. Actually, it is only necessary to do six simple exercises to keep all the muscles in shape. Those exercises are leg raises, push-ups, squats, bridges, pull-ups and handstand push-ups.

A great fitness tip for mountain bikers is to lean forward on their bikes whenever they are going up hill. This brings your weight to the front of the bike, keeping the front wheel from rising up. Try not to lean back on your bike because this will raise your front wheel and make it more difficult.

As discussed at the beginning of this article, getting the best information, and applying it to your own fitness goals, is not the most simple task. Keeping yourself educated, however, is one of the key parts of reaching your goals. Use the tips you learned here, and success will come easy.

10 Simple Ways to Boost Metabolism

April 18, 2012 by

Article by Brandon Johnson

Metabolism is the one which is responsible for converting the food that we consume to energy. The factors that contribute to metabolism are age, gender and the body size. They contribute to the calculation of BMR or the Basic Metabolism Rate. BMR is the number of calories that the body requires in the state of rest. Metabolism rate also depends on the lifestyle of the person and few changes made to the lifestyle boost metabolism.

Given below are 10 ways by which one can boost metabolism.

1.Eat Breakfast Breakfast which is the first meal of the day enhances metabolism. The metabolism rate generally slows down during the night and the cells of the body are replenished with the first meal consumed in the morning. Also, eating every 4 hours rather than depending on 3 meals a day helps increase metabolism.

2.Avoid sugars When sugars is consumed metabolism changes the sugars into fat and increase the blood sugar levels. This leads to the increase in the insulin levels which is a sign that our body is not using the stored fat content.

3.Increase Walking It is good to keep moving the whole day on your feet rather than using the elevator. Activities like gardening, using the stairs and parking a bit further to the building and walking increase metabolism.

4.Workout About 20 minutes of exercise every day is a must to increase metabolism. The best way would be to lift weight at least 4 times in a week. One should remember that the muscle burns more calories than fat while resting.

5.Never Starve In the name of losing weight many people adopt crash diets. This should never be done as it disturbs metabolism. Eating small and frequent meals boots metabolism and regulates the blood pressure as well. Skipping meals lead to the metabolic thermostat stop.

6.Add Spices It is good to add spice to the food as chili is said to boost metabolism. One should see that a few chilies are added to the meal every day.

7.Water Drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day boosts metabolism. It is found that cold water is the best as it burns more calories as it warms the cold water consumed to the body temperature.

8.Proper Sleep If a person is sleep deprived he feels hungry even when he is actually not. Sleeplessness leads to over eating. This leads to weight gain and losing the increased weight is again a challenge.

9.Consume Beverage Green tea and black coffee are said to be good beverages that help increase metabolism. It is said that these beverages burn an extra 50 calories every day.10.Reduce Stress Keeping stress under control and focusing on the present that worrying about what is not in your hands also helps improve metabolism.

Resistance Band Exercise Made Simple

Article by Ellen Miller

One of the largest problems with those suffering from nerve diseases and disabilities is keeping up circulation. Because walking let alone, more strenuous exercise can be painful, even dangerous because of the impact involved, these people end up living very sedentary lives. Eventually, limb loss may ensue due to circulation problems. Fortunately, resistance band exercise can be used by these previously sedentary people. A few stretches go a long way to keeping the blood flowing through limbs.

The best part of resistance band exercise is there is virtually no impact. Multiple Sclerosis patients who can barely walk utilize resistance bands to keep the blood flowing through their legs by doing a few stretches with the band wrapped around one of their feet.

Resistance Band Exercise can also be performed by the very large. For the obese, exercise can be nearly impossibly and terribly daunting. Resistance band exercise once again comes to the rescue for these folk. A light, convenient resistance band can be used with little to no impact and without moving all parts of your body or supporting your own weight.

For the elderly, walking and swimming are always recommended. Though these are fantastic cardiovascular exercises, it is not really toning ones’ muscles. Of course an elaborate home gym is not the right solution for an elderly person. They need the convenient, fun, and simple strength training that resistance bands can provide. Because there is virtually no set up and certainly no assembly required, any person can get their muscles toned up with a bit of colorful resistance training regardless of age.

Resistance Band training can increase in difficulty as muscle mass increases. Exercise bands are inexpensive; there is no large financial commitment. The intensity of resistance band exercise is only dependant on your ability; as your strength improves resistance bands allow you the flexibility to increase the intensity of your workout accordingly.

Children can even participate in a resistance band program to tone little muscles and inspire growth. It is a fun little quick exercise that can hold the attention of even the most rambunctious child. There are so many exercises that may be conducted with resistance bands that boredom is never a factor. Coaches have even begun to implement resistance band usage in sports to increase their players’ flexibility and endurance.

There has been resurgence in resistance band popularity due to their use in physical therapy. Those that do not have a great deal of joint flexibility or cannot stress a muscle too much are recommended to use resistance bands in their recuperation. Physical therapists recommend and apply resistance band training in combination with isometric exercise to help patients reach their maximum range of motion, flexibility, strength, and endurance.

Resistance band exercise does not only provide for excellent muscle build up, but it definitely increases one’s flexibility and range of motion. For those suffering from any movement impairing disabilities, resistance band exercise can ease the discomfort and improve upon one’s limited range of motion.

Implementing a resistance band exercise program is by no means a cure all system. It must be combined with healthy eating and mild aerobic exercises in order to achieve total physical fitness. However, combined with these two aspects, resistance band exercise can assist in toning muscle, burning fat, and increasing overall health. Once you have acquired your resistance band, exercise as much as you feel comfortable doing to see the pounds fly and the muscles build.

The Basics Behind A Simple Weight Training Program

March 27, 2012 by

Article by Aaron McCloud

If you are looking to get fit and develop some muscle, then it’s important that you start out on some kind of simple weight training program that will allow you to start seeing quick gains.

There are many different aspects that you need to bear in mind when approaching a beginner weight training program, but the three most important are:

1. Weight Training In Moderation

Weight Training is often misconstrued as an activity that you need to carry out to excess in order to see any meaningful gains. The reality is, however, that all of the gains in muscle size come in-between the training sessions, and so it is vital that you allow yourself good rest periods in-between weights sessions on even a simple weight training program.

This period is going to differ depending on who you ask, but a good rule of thumb is that you should never be training the same body part without a minimum of 48 hours of proper rest in between sessions. And even that depends on how hard you exerted the muscle, because if you really do a very hard work out to exhaustion then it may take your body five to seven days to properly recover from it.

Over-training is one of the key reasons why people just starting out on a simple weight training program either get injured, or quit – because it all seems like too much effort. So whilst your sessions should be fully committed, you should be wary of over-training.

2. Eat The Right Foods, And At The Right Times

Most people eat three meals a day, with a small breakfast, a larger lunch, and an enormous dinner.

From the perspective of a simple weight training program where you are trying to gain muscle and minimize the amount of fat on your body, this is OK. Do not get suckered in by people telling you need to eat five or six (or more) tiny meals each day.

If you eat a little more you’ll gain weight (since you’re working out, muscle). And if you eat less you’ll lose weight, mostly fat. Simple.

You should also make sure that you are eating enough protein, such as chicken, egg whites, and grass-fed beef. Since the primary building block for muscle is protein.

It is also a good idea to consider supplementing with protein drinks that contain Whey Protein, as Whey Protein is quickly and easily absorbed and can help your body to recover in that important post 30 minute period after a hard training session. Protein is the structure of your muscles.

3. Get Enough Sleep And Rest

It is essential, if you are training hard to build muscle, that you get adequate rest.Sleep is like a magic pill for the body, because you go to bed with muscles that you have literally torn apart with hard training, and overnight through the sleep process your body is able to rejuvenate itself, repair, and rebuild your muscles until they are bigger than before!

In a very real sense the most important part of weight training actually happens at night when you are sleeping. So if you are getting less than eight hours of sleep, you are robbing yourself of potential muscle gains.

These tips will help you when you’re starting a simple weight training program, but these are only the first essential elements. There are dozens of others that go into building muscle like the professionals, even if you don’t want to train like them! Avoid Injuries From Running – 3 Simple Keys For Distance Runners

March 25, 2012 by

In order to improve as a distance runner you must avoid injuries from running. Consistency is the underlying goal of any training program. A distance runner thrives on progressing from week to week and month to month. Whether striving to get faster or go farther, a running injury can put a stop to any progress and begin to lose some of the hard earned endurance and speed. To maintain constant improvement, distance runners can benefit from the following keys to avoid running injuries:

Know your personal limits

Every runner has a different breaking point. The best example of this relates to a runners weekly mileage. Elite runners training volume will often include weeks of 100+ miles. For the everyday distance runner, this volume may be far beyond their limit. Your limit is the point that as you approach your body starts to break down.

For example, each time a particular runner approaches 50 miles in a week, an unannounced injury will pop up setting back their training. With proper training personal limits can be pushed back, but it is best to allow your body time to adjust to levels just below your limits and slowly build up to and then beyond.

Recover Recover Recover

The nature of increasing speed or endurance as a distance runner is based on consistently tearing down your body and slowly improving with each consecutive workout. The only way to steadily get faster and stronger is to allow your body to heal in between runs. This is especially true of speedwork, tempo and long runs. Training creates micro tears in your muscles and recovery allows them to heal themselves and get stronger. Proper recovery helps to repair your muscles.

Without the rest needed to rejuvenate, weakened muscles can swiftly lead to injury.

Identify Your Weak Areas

The body is only as strong as your weakest area. Experienced runners will listen to their bodies to see what areas are “talking” to them before, during and after a run. These talkative areas are generally the weak areas of the body. Once identified, these weaknesses can be targeted through specific exercises to strengthen potential problem areas.

The most effective way to prevent injuries from running is to strengthen those areas that are most prone to injury. Following a core and leg strengthening program designed specifically for endurance athletes will help you to avoid common injuries and to perform at your best. Golf Strength Training Workout Routine: Simple, Effective & Easy To Implement

February 17, 2012 by

Article by Mike Pedersen

A golf strength training workout routine may sound grueling and also time-consuming…but it doesn’t need to be! I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed at the idea of starting a program of this nature.

No Gym

You may think you need to join a gym to begin your routine but you don’t. In fact…that could be the worse thing you do! The reason being a gym is full of machines. Machines typically have you sitting down. Machines also isolate usually one muscles group at a time…and in a controlled motion.

None of the above statements support improving your golf swing. Your golf swing is “on your feet”, using multiple muscles in a certain sequence of motion, while controlling your body in space. Machines accomplish none of this!

Minimal Equipment

So if you don’t need a gym…what do you need to get started on your new program? I can tell you emphatically I designed all my golf training dvds, manual and online golf training membership sites to incorporate minimal and very affordable equipment.

In fact, you can set up your entire golf fitness home gym for under $ 100 dollars! All you need is a stability ball, exercise tubing, hand weights and maybe a weighted medicine ball. No more…no less!

Simple Golf Exercises

Golf exercises can be very simple and easy…or you can make them very challenging and hard. The easiest way to get started is to break up the golf swing into phases. Take each phase and use either your hand weights, tubing or medicine ball to complete this phase of the swing.

I have come up with literally hundreds of simple and effective exercises that have helped golfers add up to 30 yards on their drives and completely eliminate back pain and injuries.

Golf Training Workouts – Strength & Flexibility

Your golf workouts should be 50/50 in regards to strength and flexibility. If you put too much emphasis on flexibility, you’ll have loose, but very weak muscles that are susceptible to injury. If you put a higher priority on strength, you will most likely lose some range of motion, which will rob you of power and distance.

For every exercise, you should do a stretch for that particular movement or muscle group. That way you get the best of both worlds. You not only become a stronger golfer, but one with a higher level of golf-specific flexibility.

Core Golf Strength – Rotational Exercises

If you are short on time, but want to get the most “bang for your buck”, focus on your core golf strength from a rotational standpoint. The golf swing is a “rotate back” and “rotate through”. That’s as simple as you can get…so use your “in home” golf fitness equipment with rotation and you’re set!

Don’t put it off!

Now that you have a better understanding of how easy this type of routine can be implemented…”get it going!” Don’t wait til tomorrow! Do something right now! I’m serious. Get out of your chair and rotate back and forth holding your club. It will feel SO good!

In no time at all…you’ll be an expert with your golf strength training workout routine.

3 Simple Tips On Abdominal Exercises

February 8, 2012 by

Article by Brett Lewis

There is no doubt that finding tips on abdominal exercises is not hard to find with all the information available today! The major question for most people is what are the right abdominal exercises and what is a good plan for achieving good results?

In this article I would like to help answer those questions by giving you tips on abdominal exercises and help you be able to get the results you are looking for.

Tips on abdominal exercises # 1- Put more focus on your diet

One of the first things you must focus on when trying to achieve results with an abdominal exercise plan is to focus on your diet. You must realize that while it is important to exercise your abdominal muscles by crunches or sit-ups if you have a layer of fat covering your abdominal muscles you will never beable to get that 6 pack look.

Take for instance the guy with a big gut. If he does 500 crunches or sit- ups per day but has a layer of beer belly covering his muscles all he will have achieved is a big hard beer belly!

So the first thing you should concentrate on and one of the best tips on abdominal exercises I can give you is lose that belly fat first!

Tips on abdominal exercises # 2- Do a variety of different abdominal exercises

Second step to achieving a great looking abdominal section is to shake up your exercises regularly.

Find a couple of really good abdominal exercises that you like doing for instance crunches or sit-ups and alternate them on a regular basis.

The main reason for this is your abdominal muscles can adapt to change very quickly. As soon as they start adapting to one particular exercise you will stop seeing results. So again the second thing you should focus on to achieve great looking abdominals is to shake up your exercise routine.

By keeping them guessing as to what’s coming next, you keep the results coming as well. Don’t make the mistake of doing the same abdominal exercises day in and day out.

Tips on abdominal Exercises # 3- Implement A Good Cardio Workout

Lastly, for getting that nice looking chiseled abdominal muscles you must be performing some type of cardio exercise. Now I’m not saying that you have to start doing hours on the treadmill.

All I’m saying is that you need to add a few quality sessions of cardio work a week. For instance, 30 minutes of walking 4 times a week will really help your body become more efficient and allow you to lose that belly fat much quicker so you can actually start seeing results from your abdominal exercises.

In conclusion:

If you stick to these 3 simple tips on abdominal exercises you will start seeing real results. This may take sometime to achieve so be patient. Think about this. How long did it take you to get to where your at now? Year, Two Years? Give your abdominal exercise routine sometime to work and I’m positive you will be able to achieve the results your looking for before you know it! Best of luck!
