There are definitely great benefits to performing exercises that focus on your neck. Your neck is sometimes referred to as your ‘second-core’, obviously connecting your head to your body, it has to support a lot of weight and head movements throughout the day. With such a pivotal role in your body, its surprising how often this body part is overlooked when it comes to exercise and fitness. Performing some basic exercises for your neck muscles can help to improve your overall appearance as well as provide improved posture and body alignment. And as a side bonus, girls tend to find guys with thicker necks more attractive, as it is a sign of health, strength, and vitality.

Your neck is composed of 4 main muscles, they are called the trapezius, levator scapulae, splenius and sternocleidomastoid. The names are hard to remember, but the ones that have the biggest impact on your appearance are the trapezius, also known as ‘traps’. These are the muscles in the back of your neck that extend and make up the gap between you neck and shoulders. Strong traps are one of the fastest ways for a man to appear musuclar, luckily they are a pretty simple muscle to workout!

There are some simple stretches you can perform daily that will help relieve tension in your neck as well as providing a warm up to any neck muscle exercises you might perform. They are performed best while sitting down and are good to do while sitting in your office chair, waiting on a train, or simply sitting on your couch. Start off by tilting your head forward slightly while bringing your chin down to your chest, hold for 20-30 seconds. The longer you hold it, the more you will start to feel the stretch get more intense in the back of your neck. Next, tilt your head back while keeping your mouth closed (to help stretch your front neck muscles even more), hold for 20-30 seconds. Then tilt you head over to one of your shoulders, making sure to not bring your shoulder up to your ear, hold for 20-30 seconds and then repeat to the other side. Once you have done each of these exercises twice, then roll your read around in a big circular motion a few times in both directions.

Now you are ready to do some exercises for neck muscles. It is best to make use of some type of neck exercise equipment, and for these purposes, dumbbells are the perfect fit. The easiest and most effective movement for your traps are shrugs. You can perform shrugs by simply grabbing a pair of dumbbells. With the dumbbells down by your side, bring your shoulders up towards your ears without bending your arms, at the top of the movement briefly pause for a second and then let them back down, repeat for 8-12 reps and do 4 sets. You can also ‘roll’ your shoulders forward or backwards while bringing them up to your ears if that is more comfortable for you.

Forms of Neck Exercise EquipmentThere are other types of neck exercise equipment you can use as well. A wrap around neck stengthener wraps around the top of your head, similar to a headband except it is weighted and typically weights around 5 lbs. To use the device, you simply put it on top of your head on and do stuff around your house, or slowly perform the stretching movements described above, and while 5 lbs doesn’t seem like much, if you were to wear it for about 15 minutes a day, you would really start to notice a difference!

The last piece of neck exercise equipment is the head harness.

Now we don’t really like this piece of equipment as it looks like a medieval torture device, however, they can be very effective. Boxers use this as a neck muscle exercise because it really helps them be able to absorb all the neck snapping motions that occur when getting jabbed in the face. So unless you are a boxer or serious bodybuilder, we say just stick with some basic dumbbell or barbell shrugs or get one of the neck strengtheners.

If you currently do no exercises for neck, we recommend at least doing the stretches recommend above and this will at a minimum serve to help prevent neck injury and stiffness, as well as help you feel more relaxed through the day. But try to incorporate a neck muscle exercise in your workout routine using one of the different types of neck exercise equipment and you’ll develop a much stronger and attractive looking neck!

Summertime is one of the best times to give your workout routine a jolt because you can do many of your activities outside while enjoying the beautiful weather. Exercise Early in the Morning

During the summer, it’s best to do your exercise routine early in the morning. That’s because the temperature is much cooler before the sun is all the way up. One of the most important summer health tips is that you should be drinking about 16 ounces of plain (preferably purified) water before, after and during your workout. You should also be drinking water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated. For those rigorous workouts, sports drinks like Gatorade should also be included because they help replace vitamins, minerals and electrolytes that you lose when your body perspires heavily.

Eat Plenty of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

During the summer, you can readily find plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables at your local grocery store for great prices. If you don’t make a habit of eating these foods during the colder months, this is the perfect chance to get used to these fresh foods when they are at their peak. You can buy fresh strawberries and add them to your morning cereal or just eat the fresh food by themselves as snacks. They are packed with nutrients that will help keep your energy up and help your body function properly in the warmer weather.

3 Of My Best Diet Tips For Fat Loss – Get In Shape For Summer Right Now

I like to compare fat loss to a stool. You see, a stool can have 3, 4, or maybe even 5 legs. The more legs it has, the sturdier it is. And this can be said when it comes to dieting. You have to eat right, exercise, and take supplements (if that’s your thing). But those are only 3 pillars to the fat loss stool. What about if we added another leg to make it more sturdy?

That leg ladies and gentlemen is the mental aspect of fat loss.

You see, I whole heartedly believe that the mental aspect of this whole fat loss and dieting conundrum is bigger than all 3 that I listed above. You can have the best nutritionist providing you dietary information and have Jillian Michaels as your trainer, while having a full team of scientists drawing blood and analyzing where you are nutrient deficient.

BUT…

If you have a weak and poor mentality, chances are you just will not last.

You might lose the weight, but you still need a strong mind to be able to keep the weight off. And that I believe is the most important part to everything, your mental state. But, there are ways that you can strengthen your mental fortitude. Your not doomed, don’t worry.

And that is what I want to talk about today, three of my best dieting/fat loss mental tips that you can use to make sure you stay on track to reach your goals.

Tip # 1: If It’s Not There, You Won’t Eat It

This is so easy that many people don’t even realize it. I will use myself as an example. I have dieted down in the past for various vacation trips, etc, and I often find myself having extremely intense cravings at night. I mean who doesn’t? Everyone does! We are all human. But what we can do to combat this is just not have any junk food in the house.

Period!

Because if it’s not around when you are ripping open all the cupboards, the pantry, and rummaging through your kid’s secret candy stash, you will just not eat it. Usually, if I have one of these what I call ice cream attacks, since I love ice cream, I’ll eat some peanut butter and have a chocolate protein shake. It’s satisfying and sweet at the same time. Then I’ll just lay down or hop on the computer. You can do this too, just prepare yourself.

Tip # 2: Talk to Yourself

Now I am not talking about Rain Man, even though that is a great movie.

This is what I mean…

If you are having cravings, or at work where they just love putting out 10 cakes a week and bags of candy like it’s going out of style and you go reach for a piece, ask yourself this question.

“Will this piece of food, hurt my progress or help my progress?”

Just by saying this to yourself under your breath (so that people don’t think you’re crazy) will force your conscious mind to think about what you are doing instead of just blindly reacting to a craving. I had a client one time who had a horrible sweet tooth. I mean, this woman had candy in her drawers at work, in the car, and at home. But once I taught her this little trick, her candy habit was cut in half.

Tip # 3: Have a Partner

Look at all of the self help groups and rehabilitation centers around the world and there is always one thing they have in common. That is accountability to someone else who has OR is going through what you are going through. You can use this same technique with fat loss. Partner up with someone who is going to go on a diet as well, but use someone who is just as serious as you. That is key! When you are accountable to someone, it makes you want to push harder, work longer, and not give into temptation. And if you are about to give into temptation, just call that person up and vice versa.

I just want you to reach your goals. It’s not hard, but you do need to have a strong mental attitude and a no die perseverance to get there.

Many people recognise that a major component to weight loss is to exercise. Of course, eating well is important too, but without exercise, especially as you get older, you are going to find that eating well is not going to do much for you other than perhaps keep your cholesterol down. If you are exercising to lose weight, then the following slimming exercise tips should help you achieve the results that you desire.

Slimming Exercise Tip #1: Walk, walk, walk! If you are among the many people who cannot take the time out of their day to go to the gym, then you are going to have to make your day work for you. Anytime you have the option, take the stairs instead of the lift. Park away from your destination so that you have to walk to get there and don’t forget to walk quickly to increase calorie burn.

Slimming Exercise Tip #2: Get some regular exercise! Most experts will tell you that you should exercise at least three times a week for 20 minutes, more if possible. This can include walking, running, lifting weights, swimming, biking, etc.

Slimming Exercise Tip #3: Remember your diet! Do not think for one second that since you are exercising that you can eat what you want. That might work for a 14-year-old boy, but that is not going to work for you. Eating all of the wrong foods is simply undermining your exercise routine, so stick with eating healthy.

Slimming Exercise Tip #4: Keep it interesting! There are literally hundreds of different exercise routines available to you. If weight lifting isn’t appealing to you, then try swimming, if you don’t like swimming try biking. Find something that you enjoy and include it in your regular routine.

Slimming Exercise Tip #5: Increase your endurance! The best way to start a program is by strength training and cardio exercises. Strength training gives you the stamina to work at the level you need to in order to lose the weight you desire. Cardio is the fastest way to burn calories and lose weight. Running, cycling and swimming are three exercises that embody both of these elements.

Set some exercise goals: People begin an exercise program for different reasons. Taking some time and validating why you want to begin an exercise program will go a long way toward remaining motivated. You don’t have to make your goals a big deal if you don’t want to.

Burn fat quickly by keeping your diet simple:A lot of people make eating and nutrition way too complicated and are always trying to figure out what to eat for their next meal.The more complicated you make your diet, the more likely that you’ll fall off the wagon and sabotage yourself.

Celebrate Yourself. After you complete any major event such as a 5 K or Walk-a-thon, created a wall of fame for yourself. That’s what I did and I gain so much inspiration from that wall. When I do my indoor cycling at my den, I look at this wall and draw energy.

Walking. There’s no excuse for not being able to complete this exercise on a daily basis. Chances are, you are staying fit without even realizing it – as long as you’re not planted on the couch for the majority of the day.

Spark Of Energy. Adding bursts of speed while doing a 20-30 minutes of workout is better than working out for a continuous 60 minutes according to research in The Journal of Applied Physiology.

Moreover, drink more than 10 glasses of water in day. Water is considered as the perfect and natural calorie burner and it also keeps the digestive system perfect in any condition. You can also drink limewater in early morning that will also help your body maintain its skin and overweight.

Another health fitness tip is, try out many different things to give your body variety. Variety in activity is the best way to keep your body in tip-top shape. When doing different activities, no matter what they are, your body will get to use many different muscles.

Tennis is not only a fun sport, but also a great way to exercise. You do not have to be world class to play; in fact, you do not even need to be good; just running after the ball will help get you in shape.

Start small. Nobody expects you to run 10 miles or bench-press 200lbs on your first day. You need to work up to these things. In fact, if you do too much too quickly you’re likely to either burn out or seriously injure yourself. Walking is good.

Swimming is a great form of exercise for surfers for several reasons. Firstly, it is great for cardio fitness and endurance. Secondly, if you come apart from your surfboard and leg line you will have to be able to swim competently.

Take a Fitness Vacation: Most people gain weight when they go on vacation because they just want to go eat, drink, party and sleep on vacation. But, I’ll challenge you to take a fitness oriented vacation.
