If you are new to running or just about to begin, motivation can often be the hardest obstacle to overcome. In the following article I’ll be giving you my top 5 beginner running tips that have been integral to successes over the last year.

1. Set yourself a target. A target is very important to your progress, without one you may be inclined to give up too easily. Use your target as motivation for your run, it could be run a marathon within 2 years or losing 2lb within a month it does not matter. Once you have completed your target set yourself a new one!

2. Invest in the correct equipment. I was temped to just stick with my 3 year old gym trainers, but without the ankle support of the correct running shoes you could end up injuring yourself. Buying new trainers is also a great motivation, you will find yourself wanting to try them out. Choosing the correct apparel will keep you comfortable and focused during your run.

3. Invite a friend. Bring out your competitive streak by inviting a friend along, you’d be surprised at how much difference this can make. Don’t be scared to invite a friend that is a experienced runner than yourself, I guarantee that they will help you find a good pace. If you cannot find someone who is willing to run with you or you prefer to run alone, sign up to the many social runner websites that make it easy for you to challenge people that are of a similar level.

4. Start slow. When starting out you will probably need to ease your body into the routine, but no matter how experienced you are this step is always important. Start at a slow steady pace and hold it for at least 5 minutes, if you feel comfortable gradually speed up. You should never get out of breath but if you do start to struggle just lower your pace never stop or walk. Once you build up a little experience your correct pace will come naturally.

5. Give injuries time. Injuries can push back your targets and if you are unfortunate enough to get one you must give it plenty of time to heal. Many running related injuries are reoccurring which could put you back to square one if you are not very careful. To get back to full fitness after a lengthy time injured take a lot of small runs, and if you feel any signs of it coming back stop immediately.

My final tip would be to always enjoy your running!

When you begin to come up with an exercise routine make sure to include cardiovascular as this is a fantastic way to begin your workouts. The theory is to improve the strength of your heart and lungs and combine this with other types of training that will complement this. You’ll be able to achieve this with the various forms of equipment available in a well stocked gym yet your motivation to keep going may diminish if you cannot vary the sorts of things you do. One of the simplest ways to get started without needing a gym is usually to start running. Injuries can be a normal effect of running, so in this article we will be covering exactly how to get started in order to help avoid these kinds of injuries.

You’ll be able to start running in most cases right where you live and you can also plan to alter the environment of each run if you wish by finding other places that would be great for this type of exercise. From the very beginning, even before you begin your running, you will need to take in to consideration what you should be wearing and if you may need other things also. Your first stop really should be at a sporting goods store in order to get a good quality pair of running shoes. The sort of shoe you will need will depend on your current ability and the kind of running you intend to do. It is a good idea to look into the market and get advice simply because this will ensure that you avoid strains and injury that could stop you from progressing. And as you continue to improve and get better and also faster at running it’s also advisable to think about getting much better running shoes.

You should also be thinking about the various other clothing you will be wearing despite the fact that this is not as important when you are first starting out. The higher quality clothing items is something you will not need to worry about right away, however as you progress you should give consideration to getting them. This will help you get into the appropriate mindset when you decide to start running when you look professional it can effect your running. You can also find other types of devices that can help you such as a distance meter and a heart rate monitor. You might also need to pay more attention to any traffic you have on the road if you chose to get ear buds so you can listen to music while you run.

With regards to all the added equipment and devices you don’t have to go out and get them all at once, you can simply add these items as you continue to run more and more. This can be a same with the running itself as in the beginning you may find you are worn out quickly and this is sometimes the hardest part. You also don’t need to start running 10 miles every day, start off with shorter distances and also at a reduced pace you will improve in time but don’t over do it when you begin. It will help keep you on track and you can monitor your improvement by recording what you achieve each time.

Should you keep running for any length of time you will begin to notice the difference in your level of fitness and as your technique improves you will notice the psychological benefits you receive from running also.

Recognizing the continuing trend of runners seeking enhanced comfort and protection in their footwear, W.L. Gore & Associates, inventor of high performance fabric technology, has joined forces with leading running company Brooks Sports, Inc. to create a range of new running shoes engineered with the GORE-TEX brand for Fall 2011.

Acknowledging Brooks as an innovative industry leader in designing high-performance men’s and women’s running shoes, apparel, and accessories, Gore will supply its GORE-TEX brand and technology know-how to Brooks’ seasonal portfolio to enhance the comfort and protection performance of some of their most popular styles, the on- and off-road Adrenaline ASR and neutral Ghost, the third edition of which was awarded the distinction of “2010 International Editor’s Choice” earlier this month by leading running magazine Runner’s World.

“We look forward to a long and collaborative relationship with Brooks, playing off of each others’ strengths and best-in-class technologies to build Brooks footwear enhanced with the GORE-TEX brand,” said Matthew Schreiner, global product footwear specialist at Gore. “As runners look to enjoy both on- and off-road running, our mission is to enable the best running experience possible for runners of all styles and skill levels, no matter what ground conditions they encounter along the way.”

Both Brooks and Gore have a long history of innovating with the best technology to meet consumer needs. Brooks is responsible for several key advancements in performance running footwear including patent-pending Brooks DNA–the smart cushioning system that instantaneously adapts with each step to a runner’s unique biomechanics, pace, gait, and surface–and BioMoGo, the world’s first biodegradable running shoe midsole that biodegrades 50 times faster than conventional athletic shoe midsoles in an active, enclosed landfill. In Fall 2011, both of these technologies work alongside waterproof, highly breathable GORE-TEX liners featured in two debut styles from Brooks: the Adrenaline ASR GTX and the Ghost GTX.

“We always look for compelling ways to deliver on runners’ needs, and many of our customers have asked us for performance footwear that can keep their feet dry and comfortable in even the soggiest conditions,” said Andre Kriwet, director of global footwear management for Brooks. “That’s why we’re excited to bring GORE-TEX technology into two of our top-selling shoes. The durable membrane is waterproof from the outside yet allows perspiration vapor to escape from the inside for optimal performance on-the-go.”

The Adrenaline ASR GTX and Ghost GTX will both be available in men’s and women’s sizing on August 1, 2011, for a suggested retail price of $ 120. Giving runners more choices to meet their needs, Brooks will continue to offer the Adrenaline ASR and Ghost series without GORE-TEX.

When it comes to running shoes, the Adidas Supernova is among the best. People who wear Adidas Supernova running shoes all enjoy the GEOFIT trademark materials that offer a custom fitting shoe, and the FORMOTION trademark material that offers superior cushioning that makes this shoe adaptable to nearly any terrain for running and walking. The technology put into this shoe is commendable to say the least.

One reason people really love the Adidas Supernova running shoe is because it offers superior comfort, support, and is available in a multitude of styles and colors that make it easy to wear them both on and off the track. Many people have commented that they have yet to find a shoe that offers so much, and at such an affordable price. Some of the people who wear Adidas Supernova running shoes swear they have yet to find another shoe that comes close to them, in fact a lot of these people will only wear this brand of shoe while running, walking, or doing other types of fitness exercises.

Individuals that find a shoe that loves them back, such as this brand from Adidas, tend to stay loyal to them, and it is obvious when looking at an Adidas Supernova review, that those who wear this shoe have an infinite love affair with this particular type of shoe. Reading a review of this nature surely intrigues the reader into wondering if this shoe is really what all the hype is about, but having a ton of positive reviews, being elected an editor’s choice of a famous running magazine, definitely can inspire one to buy a pair of these shoes. Those that buy a pair generally end up leaving inspiring reviews of their own.

Seldom is there a shoe that receives as much as love as the Adidas Supernova, it is loved not only for the comfort it provides, but the durability, superior levels of cushioning, and the amazing colors and styles available. These shoes can not only be worn for fitness training, but also for a comfortable stroll around the mall-they go well with a pair of jeans or shorts. Furthermore, Adidas has made this awesome shoe for men and women alike, making it an even more superb shoe.

However, out of all of the Adidas Supernova running shoes, I must admit that my favorite is the Adidas Supernova Sequence 4. It won Running Network’s Best Motion Stabilizing Shoe Fall 2011. This year’s model has had significant changes made.

Men and women alike are enjoying the benefits of this shoe, many people who have had problematic knees, ankles, and back trouble have reported this shoe to be extremely comfortable, making it a shoe worth trying. When reading any reviews about running shoes, consider reviews that most corresponds to your situation, than consider giving this hardworking shoe a try. Most people who do have no regrets, in fact many will never try another pair of shoes for their fitness needs. A shoe that commands this type of attention is sure to be a hit for a long time to come, and definitely worth trying.

Let’s face it, the world for those running a dollar store has drastically changed over the past years. There was a time when a tiny retail store could provide profits which were adequate to support an owner/manager. Now that just is not a realist expectation in the dollar business. In fact not only has the need for a bit larger store become a requirement for success, but even the format of a 99¢ or $ 1 store has started to move closer to the same path as was followed by the dinosaur.

So exactly what does the future hold for dollar stores? Read on for some of the potential hurdles those operating a dollar store will likely face sometime in the future:

• More and more cost pressurePrices on almost everything are creeping higher for those running a dollar store. In fact the pressure on profits is growing so strong that more and more store owners are exploring how to move from a retail price of 99¢ or $ 1 only concept to dollar plus to allow them to continue their business operation. This cap is especially difficult to deal with when the wholesale cost of virtually all the hottest selling items are approaching ever-closer to full retail. Obviously you cannot make a profit if your wholesale price is as much as you are selling those same items for.

• Tougher competitionThere are some extremely successful dollar store companies in the market place. They know the dollar discount business well, do a great job of managing their business, and in some cases they have established aggressive growth programs. Add to that the number of other retailers who are doing everything possible to compete for the dollar discount shopper and those operating a dollar store must step up their own performance to succeed.

• Bigger storesIt is shocking to see the size stores have grown to. Where once a profitable small family run store was easy to open and operate, things are changing. Now massive stores are becoming more and more common. In fact some shoppers make this an important factor they consider when examining your business versus other shopping options. Fair or not, their decision about returning to your store hinges in-part on just how big your store is. After all, a bigger store obviously offers the shopper a greater selection of products!

• Ever-wider variety of productsThese massive stores offer a gigantic number of different products, all in huge quantities. Careful consideration must be made to offer a broad assortment of the most in-demand consumables as well as other popular items. It takes room to accomplish this task. So once again, bigger stores can be better positioned win when the selection of merchandise offered is considered by shoppers.

Those running a dollar store must be fully aware of the market place and specifically the competition in the market place. The environment has changed, and continues to change. These changes are likely to continue as all who are running a dollar store whether it is a small single store or a massive chain seek the best ways to meet consumer demand while also generating a profit. While you don’t need a mega-store to succeed, you must develop and then successfully execute a plan to grow sales, cut costs and excel when compared to the competition.

Cross country running is a type of sport which takes place over open, natural terrain in events comprising large groups of runners. No two running courses are exactly the same. There are differences between cross country running and track running. To begin with, cross country is carried out in open, natural landscapes instead of specially designed track surfaces. The speed is also different particularly because of the long distance that has to be covered over natural terrain. The running style also differs in the areas of leg movement, foot planting and stride length.

Generally, cross country cannot be learned automatically but one must go through special training to acquire the right technique for successful running and the minimizing of injuries. Even a good long distance track runner may not have the same superiority in cross-country races.

Different techniques for are used different surface conditions. For example, if the ground is wet and soft, the stride should be shorter to avoid skidding. Also, the runner must bend the knees somewhat and point the toes outwards slightly in order to increase ground traction. Running on wet surfaces requires more effort than on dry ground. On hard surfaces the runner must keep the foot pointing in the direction of the run, with a straight line from heel to toe.

The ever-changing surface conditions means the cross country runner is more mentally alert and physically versatile than a track runner. Training programs consist of workouts on different physical terrains and can take months for those who want to compete professionally. The training not only builds up the physical skills but also boosts the muscle and joint stamina to protect against any damaging effects.

The equipment required for cross country running is very minimal. Most people run in shorts and vests, although during colder weather long sleeved shirts and sports tights are recommended for keeping warm, provided they don’t hinder mobility. Shoes are the most important part of the running apparel. Cross country shoes are called ‘Cleats’. They are lightweight and typically have metal spikes on the underside, which may or may not be replaceable.

Cross country running events are organized according to gender and age-groups, and competition can comprise of several of these individual events. Aside from the physical training, a competitor must incorporate proper dietary habits in their regime. Meals should be well balanced, high in carbohydrates but with minimal fatty foods. Drinking plenty of water is important including just prior to the race.

The race usually beings with a large mass of people jogging briskly but over the course the group spreads and thins out as runners fall into their race pace. From the start speed the runner settles into a slower, long-distance pace so as to avoid oxygen debt which may deplete his energy to early.

Runners must stay within a particular distance from the designated path which is marked out with ribbons, paints and flags. The course normally terminates at a long, narrow walkway called a funnel, whereby runners pass through in single file.

Although our website is mainly for joggers, there are many joggers who like to participate in cross country running events so we thought we would add this page for anyone interested. Be sure and check out our article about all the health benefits jogging exercise has to help you lead a longer, healthier life.

Your heartbeat pounds in your ears, your eyes focus straight ahead and you only feel the thumping of your feet striding the path as the wind rushes by.

Yes, the experience of running can indeed be described as spiritual or poetic, but unfortunately many new runners find the experience to be boring, painful or even the cause of a serious injury which turns them off running altogether.

If you are interested in running for health, recreation or to train for a marathon supporting your cause, it is wise to take time to develop a healthy routine that will protect your body and create an enjoyable running experience.

STEP ONE: PREPARE TO RUN

It is crucial for a runner to invest in a proper pair of running shoes. Not doing so will put you at an increased risk of pain and serious injury. You will also quickly notice that a proper pair of running shoes gives you more cushion and support which will make running easier than using regular street shoes or those developed for another sport.

Hydration is also important for running. Staying hydrated will help you endure the run and keep your body in prime condition.

If you are training for a long distance race you will want to keep a log of your distance and/or time. You may also wish to log your style of training, any discomfort or feelings about the run if it suits your needs.

STEP TWO: WHERE TO RUN

Concrete sidewalks are NOT the place to run. Harder than asphalt and full of cracks you should make the effort to find a more suitable running surface.

Tracks are usually safe, but can be boring. If tracks are the only option try taking a friend to encourage you to stick to your routine.

Smooth dirt paths are the best option. Grass can work as well but watch for obstructions or uneven surfaces. You can ask local runners or a running store for recommendations for places to run.

STEP THREE: HOW TO RUN

There are various training methods for long distance runners, including interval training and speed training. However, for beginners there are a few basic suggestions to get you started.

Begin every run with a warm up walk. This gets your muscles ready to move. Take a walk break every ten minutes to rehydrate and extend your endurance.

Don’t forget to breathe. You should be able to talk while running unless you are going for a fast run which is not usually suitable for a beginner. If you are gasping for breath you need to slow down. You will build endurance with time. It is better to start out easy and build up than wear yourself out.

STEP FOUR: HOW TO FINISH THE RUN

You should always walk for a minute or more after a run to cool down. Stretch your muscles for 10-15 minutes within about 15 minutes of completing your run to keep them from contracting and causing discomfort.

Ice packs or cool water on your legs will also reduce inflammation and help keep your body in good condition for the next run. Not taking these steps can lead to severe injury.

Enjoy your run and take care of your body and you may find that you enjoy the mental benefits of running as much as the physical!

Running Faster ? How to Improve Running Time

July 29, 2012 by

After months of training, the next step for runners is to develop more their running speed. Most runners have run only within their comfort zones and little changes with it will cause a little panic (especially for beginners). They are afraid that when they try to get out from their zone they will fail, but they should seek ways of running faster. The following are some methods that will lead to increasing your running speed:

• Turnover
Your turnover (number of times a foot hits the ground per minute) must increase to get you to go faster. The increased number of turnover will mean an increase in the covered distance also. With the use of a stopwatch, count the number of turnovers you make in a single minute. Then, gradually increase your turnover rate by adding 5 steps every minute until you reach your goal rate. A competitive runner can make 90 steps or more in 1 minute, but regular faster runners achieve at least 80 strides per minute.

This way, you won’t be panicking of the idea that your heart will increase because the increase in your running rate will happen in a gradual manner.

• Utilize Toes
Another way of running faster is through pushing with the big toe. This moves your body forward and it take off some of the pounding on your heels.

• Proper Posture
Proper posture should be observed at all times. Your head should be aligned with your back and chin must be kept tucked. Look straight ahead of you (about five feet). The arms must be at the sides and swung forward, never swing across your body.

• Speed Workouts
Speed workouts are very for running faster. Including some of them in your training program will boost your speed in a slow and steady manner. A very good example of speed workout is hill training. Start by doing this workout once a week and then as you get use to the pace increase it to twice a week.

On race day, just remember that all techniques and trainings of running faster have one key: that is to start with a slow pace and gradually work yourself up until you reach the finish line. Be calm and cool. Warm up and let your body loose before the race starts because tight muscles do not help much and easily get tired. Don’t forget to do cool down exercises right after finishing.
